Between the covers
I can confess:
I don’t know everything about the industry, I am not going to claim to, but I have seen quite lot and probably more than the occasional researcher that sticks their nose in to one small part of the huge industry and goes ‘I know it all and this is how it is’.
Writing Confession:
Writing a book is not as profitable as you would think, advances are not what they where, so I hear. If I tried, realy tried, I could probably earn more in a week than I have off the back of one book.
I really am not going to take this up full time to make a crust, so Ok I might not be slogging away to earn a living from the pen.
But there are many a writer turned paid companion to support their income, why not the other way around?
For all you sceptics out there, you might not belive it but I am not really trying to sell (and yes I am aware this who blog is a blatant advert of sorts) to make a huge pile of money.
I have never looked at this as falling on the band wagon of so called call girl lit
(for a start its not about a call girl and I am not American! No offence to American's)
If you want to know?
I did start writing this years back after a goading bet (might write about it later in another post)and then when I got some down on paper and after everyone passing it around like a hot potato. It sat in the bottom draw of someone’s desk. Because at the time no women publisher or agents had balls enough to even talk with me, let alone take me on and see if it could be done.
That was until a very ballsy agent took me on and even broader minded publishers.
Who don’t kick women down just because they chose a different path than others, unlike like other publishers that have snubbed people in the past.Just because of what they do rather then what they write think they are beneath them and not worth a chance.
There, gripe over about that. Felling better already
Cover confession :
It is a nice cover and good for marketing for a beach time read, I see no problem with that, but I personally do not like my book cover.
Although I do like the little orange boots down the spine (my publishers will probably get me to pull this bit as bad publicity, but lets just see how long it lasts here)
Sorry to all the other lady’s out there that have similar memoir covers of an illustration bent, I don’t mean to copy. It wasn’t my choice.
< I did rather like the original, even though it was bright Pink
(what’s with all the pink? do women really buy things just because its pink? I thought we had more taste than that)
And it did have Kinky in the title until Supermarkets said they 'don’t sell kink' and it might put mothers off their morning shop or some such fluff.
So it all had to change, so away went the weird feather duster riding crop thingie, the fishnet and the Kinky!
Now has some big pink knickers on it that no working girl I know, would be seen working in unless she had been asked to for some sort of wife fetish.
You would think by now they would realize that sex is going mainstream, no one is too bothered any more. I only have to walk down the road, past the chemist to see some sun cream add, with a large photo billboard of some girls bum in a thong bikini and no one really gives it a second glance any longer.
But if it means lady’s from the WI can read it at the beach without getting to embarrassed, then hey what do I know?
